Energy Management – EMS

Apptive Energy Management System (EMS) is a solution for controlling and optimizing energy generation, storage, and consumption within a single site or across multiple locations. We use industrial control units (in the same class as Apptive RTU) that collect telemetry in real time, evaluate device status, and control energy assets according to the configured logic.

EMS connects photovoltaics, battery storage, and consumption into a single orchestration layer, helping reduce costs, increase self-consumption, and simplify operations.

Energy Management

What EMS controls and integrates

Our EMS unifies energy assets into one control system and can coordinate, for example:

  • Photovoltaics and inverters

  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), including PCS/BMS coordination logic

  • EV charging infrastructure (including charging schedules)

  • Heat pumps, HVAC technologies, and other electric loads

  • Meters, sensors, and IoT edge devices

  • Industrial technologies and production loads (e.g., CNC machines and other equipment)

The system is designed to integrate both modern technologies and legacy components using standard protocols or adapters.

Smart optimization and automation

EMS continuously evaluates operational data and automatically orchestrates devices so that maximum benefit is achieved without manual intervention. Typical optimization scenarios include:

Self-consumption optimization (maximizing use of on-site generation, handling surplus energy)

Peak shaving (reducing demand peaks)

Load shifting (shifting consumption over time)

Import/export management (grid export limits, feed-in restrictions)

Battery control (charging/discharging strategies based on generation, state of charge, DoD targets, and priorities)

Response to tariffs and market signals (e.g., dynamic tariffs, spot prices, operating rules)

EMS + BESS controller + monitoring in one

Unlike traditional approaches, we can combine in a single platform:

EMS functions (control and optimization),

control logic for batteries and power components (battery/PCS/BMS coordination),

and monitoring with clear visualization.

This shortens integration time, reduces solution complexity, and increases operational reliability.

Supervision and a clear dashboard

The solution includes a web application for monitoring and control that provides a unified view of devices, energy status, and performance KPIs.

It enables real-time and historical monitoring of generation and consumption, tracking battery status, control parameters, and operational events.

You can set automation rules, operating priorities, and operating modes according to the customer’s needs.

Protocols and integrations

We support standard industrial and IoT communication interfaces for fast connection to devices and external systems, typically:

  • Modbus RTU / Modbus TCP

  • M-Bus

  • DLMS / COSEM

  • REST API

  • MQTT (including IoT integrations)

  • SunSpec

Integration of legacy technologies via adapters.

Deployment and connectivity

EMS can be deployed according to infrastructure and operational requirements:

  • locally as an industrial gateway (edge deployment on site)

  • hybrid (local control + cloud analytics / remote access)

  • in the cloud as a SaaS solution

  • in a high-availability configuration for critical operations

Supported connectivity options include Ethernet, RS485, Wi-Fi, 4G/5G, and industrial IoT gateways. Remote access can be provided via VPN.

Application variants

Flexible variant (on-prem / hybrid / cloud)

A lightweight, modular application suitable for smaller installations as well as distributed assets. It supports monitoring, visualization, and optional add-on modules.

Advanced cloud variant (cloud-only, enterprise)

A cloud-native platform for customers who need advanced analytics, predictions, a centralized multi-site view, and integrations into broader enterprise systems (e.g., MES).

Security and reliability

The solution is designed for industrial environments and long-term operation. We support network segmentation, encrypted communication, firewall/VPN readiness, and detailed event and change logging. For critical installations, we offer redundant and high-availability options.

Data integration into higher-level systems

For customers who already operate their own SCADA, data platforms, or enterprise applications, we provide standardized export of real-time and historical data. Integration can run via MQTT (including Sparkplug B), REST API, IEC 60870-5-104 (IEC 104), Modbus TCP, webhooks, or custom connectors.
